I just returned from a visit to the danville health center. This small health clinic is a great place to get the medical needs of the people within its community and really help people get the help and services they need. As I walked in I was greeted by a receptionist who told me that I was the first person she had ever seen in that space. She also explained that the health center was named after the Danville area, which is within a very small city.
The health center is set up in a very small storefront with a few desks and a couple of chairs. It’s very informal and feels a lot like the “backyard” of a private club. The staff is very friendly and a great opportunity to get some hands-on training with both the medical staff and the volunteers.

Danville is a city of about 60,000 people. In the past (and most recently this week) the population has been much larger than in any other Indiana city. There is a lot of traffic, but there is also a lot of crime. Of course, the average person is going to be getting a lot of traffic and crime. This is particularly true in the case of the Danville area.
The first step in the process of getting the community’s health care needs addressed is to hire a staff physician. This is typically a temporary solution due to the fact that the community is going to be moving. There are three general types of hospitals that are available in the area: community hospitals (in which the doctors are volunteers), academic hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities.
