Things to Ask Your Invisalign Dentist

Invisalign is a popular, innovative way to straighten your teeth without metal braces! But before you go ahead and get Invisalign, it’s a good idea to make sure that your dentist knows what they’re doing. Here are some things to ask when choosing an Invisalign dentist:

1) How many years have you been working with Invisalign?

This is especially important if you’re new to the practice. If your dentist has worked with Invisalign for many years, they will know what works and what doesn’t work with it. Also, make sure that they’ve had experience in both treating adults and children!

2) How often do you see cases like mine?

For example, if you’re looking to get Invisalign to fix an overbite, but your dentist only sees simple underbites, then this isn’t the right person for you. Make sure that your dentist is experienced enough in treating whatever orthodontic issues you are having. Keep in mind that nobody can be 100% successful in their treatment.

3) Do I need a certain type of bite or a specific occlusion for Invisalign?

Invisalign isn’t the only type of braces – certain types of brackets can be used in conjunction with Invisalign to straighten your teeth further! Ask what your dentist’s preferred method is, if applicable.

4) What kind of training have you had with Invisalign?

This is especially important if you’re new to the practice. Make sure that your dentist has been trained by a company that specializes in Invisalign. Also, ask them how they stay up-to-date with advancements and improvements in their field. For example, did they attend a weekend conference or join a special interest group where they learned from leading experts worldwide?

5) Are you experienced enough to perform the procedures I need?

If you require jaw surgery, orthognathic surgery, or any other type of procedure that requires specific skills, then make sure your dentist is up to the task. These procedures are more challenging than just straightening teeth, so it’s good to know that your dentist has had prior experience in this area.

6) Do you have before and after pictures that I can see?

This isn’t required, but it certainly helps! Seeing photos of people who have undergone orthodontic treatment will give you an idea of what to expect with Invisalign or any other type of braces. Ask to see their results! If they don’t have these types of photos, you should ask why not.

7) Do I need to be referred to an orthodontist?

For example, if your dentist suspects that you have a bite problem that may require jaw surgery, then they should refer you to an orthodontist or maxillofacial surgeon. This is because the Invisalign procedure cannot fix every type of teeth problem.

8) What happens during my free exam and consultation appointment?

Before committing to anything, you must see what kind of service your dentist provides for their patients. A great way to find out is by scheduling a free initial consultation with them! During this appointment, they’ll discuss the procedures planned for you and how much they will cost. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have, including the ones listed above!

9) Do you offer free maintenance plans?

It’s not uncommon for Invisalign patients who have had their treatment for a few years to require additional care. This may include adjustments and possible replacements, especially if your dentist used clear aligners instead of metal. Some providers offer free reassessments or checkups after completing your treatment plan, which is good news for those looking to avoid future financial strains.

10) How much experience do you have with clear aligners?

If you’re opting for the transparent option, make sure your dentist has ample experience with this type of bracket material! Ask what kind of problems they’ve seen in patients who wear these types of braces and how they were able to solve them. If possible, ask to see some examples of their work. This will help you know what to expect from your new provider.

11) What type of payment plans do you accept?

Invisalign treatment can be a pricey investment, which is a valid concern for a lot of people. Ask your dentist about the terms they accept, including down payments and monthly installments. If needed, see if they offer interest-free options or free dental checkups as incentives! You might even want to ask if they offer discounts for signing up early.

If your dentist seems unwilling to answer these or any other of your questions, then look elsewhere. You want to make sure that you go into this treatment with no surprises and completely understand what needs to be done. Finding the right Invisalign dentist should be an informed decision, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into!
