How much is an atom worth?
This may seem like a silly question, but atoms are actually the building blocks of matter. They make up everything we know:
Plants and animals.
In this blog post, we’re going to look at one atom in particular: hydrogen. Atoms are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons carry the positive charge in an atom while electrons can have either a negative or neutral charge.
The number of protons dictates what type of element it is: hydrogen has one proton; helium two; lithium three, etc.
Electrons orbit around this nucleus which balances out their electric charges to make sure that there’s no net charge on the entire atom (neutral). Hydrogen atoms are tiny–they’re only about 0.001 meters wide!
It would take trillions and trillions to fill up even a small container like your average coffee mug..or if you put them end-to-end then they could stretch from Earth.
